About the ABB IMMFP02 Multi-Function Processor Module
The IMMFP02 Multi-Function Processor Module (MFP) is a key component in the INFI 90® control module line, serving as a versatile tool for process control. It is designed as a multiple loop analog, sequential, batch, and advanced controller, offering powerful solutions to a wide range of process control challenges. Additionally, the module is capable of handling data acquisition and information processing, ensuring true peer-to-peer communications.
This IMMFP02 module supports a comprehensive set of function codes, enabling it to manage even the most intricate control strategies. The INFI 90 system leverages a diverse array of analog and digital I/O modules to interact with and control the process, with the MFP module capable of communicating with up to 64 modules in various combinations.
The MFP module operates in three modes: execute, configure, and error. In execute mode, it runs control algorithms while continuously monitoring for errors. If an error is detected, the front panel LEDs display an error code corresponding to the issue. In configure mode, users can edit existing or add new control algorithms, with the module not executing any control algorithms during this time. If an error is found in execute mode, the module transitions to error mode.
To ensure reliability, the MFP module features a one megabaud CPU to CPU communication link, which supports redundant processors. This link allows a backup MFP module to remain in a hot standby mode while the primary MFP module handles control algorithms. In the event that the primary MFP module goes off-line, the backup module seamlessly takes over control, ensuring a bumpless transfer.
